In the world of perfumes, creating a perfume is a true art, where knowledge, sensitivity, and creativity meet nature and chemistry.
Perfumer Kathryn, with her talent for discovering and combining unique scents, invites us on a journey into the magical world of perfumes.
The origin of perfumes has its roots in antiquity specifically in 4000 BC in China, Arabia and Egypt where aromatic substances were burned for sacred purposes and the smoke was considered to convey messages to the gods. The use of these incenses spread to the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. It is said that the Greeks were the first people to manufacture liquid perfume, of course completely different from the form we know today. The first perfume with alcohol was created in 1371 for the Queen of Hungary by a Priest.
In 2003, Italian archaeologists excavated in the area near the Tower of Cyprus the remains of an ancient perfume industry, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1850 BC.
The Art of Perfumery spread to Europe in the 16th century, perfumes were used by the wealthy to cover their body odor.
Cavemen used smell to make decisions about whether to approach something or not.
Of all our senses, smell is the one that helps us with memory and survival.
It is one of the most important senses and plays an important role in perfumery. Without the "nose" the perfect harmony cannot be created in the composition of a perfume.
Perfumes are divided into families - groups according to their smell.
For Women they are as follows:
1. The Floral which includes rose, lily, carnation, gardenia, narcissus and violet.
2. Fruit includes most fruits that have a smell.
3. Green includes green leaves, freshly cut grass, pine, cedar, hyacinth, lavender and rosemary.
4. Spicy includes smells like cinnamon, clove, ginger, cardamom, spice and nutmeg.
5. Oriental is the heaviest category of perfumes. Suitable for evening out only and includes woods, resins, musk, ambergris and vanilla.
6. Citrus fruits include lemon, linden, grapefruit, tangerine, citron and bergamot.
For Men they are as follows:
1. Spicy
2. Citrus fruits
3. Of Lavender
4. Of the Forest including sandalwood, cedar, various woods, rosemary.
By tradition the fragrance is a blend of natural essential oils distilled from herbs, grasses and woods and fixatives are added for long lasting fragrance.
Today, perfumes are made from concentrated substances of aromatic materials dissolved in the smallest possible amount of high grade alcohol. Luxury perfumes have a higher percentage of natural materials compared to synthetics and a greater amount of aromatic oils such as my perfume creations.
The process of creating a perfume is complex and fascinating. It starts from the top notes where they are the ones that give the first impression of the perfume. At first they last for a few minutes but after mixing with the middle notes they start to harmonize.
The middle notes define the character of the perfume, it is the heart where it will modify the base notes.
The Base notes convey the top notes and middle notes giving the perfume a strong smell and complete - bind the whole creation. They are the ones that last the longest.
Cathrine invites each of us to live the unique experience of creating a personal perfume. Discover with her your aromatic profile that reflects your personality, style and character.
